ABOUT US
The Internet SOCiety (ISOC) is a professional membership society with more than 100 organization and over 20,000 individual members in over 180 countries. It provides leadership in addressing issues that confront the future of the Internet, and is the organization home for the groups responsible for Internet infrastructure standards, including the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Internet Architecture Board (IAB).
Membership at ISOC India Chennai Chapter is open to all those who are interested in the evolution and growth of the internet, irrespective of age, sex and occupation, non-restrictive of fields. So, members can come from the IT industry as well as from various other fields such as textiles and agriculture, members can come from Manufacturing / Service / Academia / Government, members may or may not have a technical background. ISOC membership is open to all and all that ISOC looks for is an interest in the growth and evolution of the internet.
To join ISOC India Chennai chapter please do the following:
1. Fill up ISOC’s Global Membership Form at
https://members.isoc.org/PortalTools/NewUser/Index.cfm
2. Once you submit your basic information, you will be led to the next page where you will establish a log in name and password.
3. When you establish your log in name and password, you will be automatically led to a log in page, log in and click on the Join a Chapter link and choose “India Chennai”.
After you have completed the process at isoc’s global website, please send an email with a summary of the application particulars to isocindiachennai at gmail dot com.

Purpose and Scope of Internet Society India Chennai Chapter
Primary Purpose and Scope :
- The primary purpose is to be a part of the worldwide Intenet Society (ISOC) in its activities of maintaining and extending the development and availability of the Internet and its associated technologies and applications - both as an end in itself, and as a means of enabling organizations, professions, and individuals worldwide to more effectively collaborate, cooperate, and innovate in their respective fields and interests.
- To examine key issues and offer conceptual and technical inputs to ISOC and where possible offer on site and off site services to ISOC
- for the development, maintenance, evolution, and dissemination of standards for the Internet and its internetworking technologies and applications;
- for the growth and evolution of the Internet architecture;
- for the maintenance and evolution of effective administrative processes necessary for operation of the global Internet and internets;
- in education and research, collaborative or independent, related to the Internet and internetworking;
- for the harmonization of actions and activities at international levels to facilitate the development and availability of the Internet;
- in collection and dissemination of information related to the Internet and internetworking, including histories and archives;
- in assisting technologically developing countries, areas, and peoples in implementing and evolving their Internet infrastructure and use;
- in liaising with other organisations, governments and the general public for coordination, collaboration, and education in effecting the above purposes.
Secondary Purpose and Scope :
- Serve the people of the region and the defined group by working through government, non-governmental agencies, private corporations and academic institutions to cause greater and world class access to the internet for the growth of the nation and for the benefit of all sections of society.
